Ever feel the world is in retrograde?
You know, the one when what might be plain sailing comes to an abrupt halt … moving through October, and a particular client project – the one we’ve been working on all year with a ‘vitally important’ deadline now becomes a … not-so-much-needed, more likely an ‘after December’ type of urgency.
Deadlines? Let’s change that.
Is timing everything? We can put this one back to suit, make it ‘less essential.’
Most of us have ‘been there’ at some point.
So now I’ve gained time, and I’ll take that as a kind of win. I’ve come to appreciate that the smallest gains deserve credit.
Our time is valuable … as are the people we have around us, those who help us achieve. We learn to cherish our close relationships, the special contacts who listen and willingly share their knowledge and support.
It’s times like this I reward effort, when chocolate comes to mind (ah yes, now I have your attention): only one square, or a single swirl – or even a single ball of the chocolate, the version you covet most, offering you a sweet taste of success, even if it is for just a moment. Taste the reward.
Just a smidgen at a time, you know – not the whole thing, mind …
So set aside the reward of choice aside once you’ve cleared the inbox, or replied to that important, though annoying survey, replenished the printer, or even addressed the updates to the blog or website … don’t just save that favourite sweet treat for the major wins … by making your world a little more efficient, by being able to see a little more clearly, and making the most of more time(!), now that’s a great win in today’s ‘I’m too busy’ world, you know, the not-now world of ‘maybe… I’ll come back to you.’
OK, so not everyone is into sweet treats …
Try your own reward programme – in whatever shape you prefer – by shrinking the problem through small steps, bringing the world closer to our pace, because we cannot build our business on simply ‘maybe.’
That is, not until the world starts moving forward once more …
