Add more by being yourself

Being the cruel type that I am, I smile to myself whenever I notice an advertisement showing poor spelling … the instance of the van signage was the worst – I mean, if you be looking for more business but cannot describe your own services correctly … on the side of your truck? Well, I’d suggest investing in having the job done properly.

You may find your difference.

Let’s trust the professionals, shall we?

We see plenty to remark about in this time of fake, junky advertising – even though the display that might catch the eye still carries plenty of colour and the obligatory 10% off, there’s just something that doesn’t look quite right – and the voiceover always seems to have the same pace, tone, same … the same stutter?

Same – same – same.

Do you get it? The time you ask yourself: “Didn’t I just see the same advertisement from a completely different company? Hasn’t the guy with the same creepy smile and check shirt appeared on all the colour pages? Wow, he IS in demand – and must be making a great living!

In fact, it looks so good, we look again and wait a minute … why two left hands? Then the car seems to have six wheels? With a front end where the back end should be?? Surely it’s not me? OK, the realisation hits as the artificial thingy has seemingly infiltrated every trader in the local area (and beyond!) Anyone with an unsuspecting advertising budget (or need to DIY) is ‘caught out, swooned once again by the cheesy check shirt.’

Nothing like the human touch, eh?

With the snowball effect that ‘sameness’ has swamped the creative industries, some argue the real message has become lost in fake … but hasn’t it always?

(Who said that?)

Today, more bang for the buck is still measured in impact, although surely we can deliver the job properly? Same garish tone of colour, but please, more appreciation for human intelligence perhaps?

Who reads this stuff? Am I the only one switching off to sit in the dark while the bland ‘fakery fairy’ and creative-less engagement run amok?

Anyway, that’s enough of a rant from me (for today)

Thank goodness people still buy from real people. Have you noticed I’m rarely a creepy smiler, and no, I don’t own a checky shirt!

Socks? Maybe.

Business is personal.
