I’ve seen lots of ‘nodding heads’ whenever I talk of how fractured the world has become these past few years, many contributing factors bringing a little too much stress on communities, individuals and those in business alike.
“Not telling us anything new, Charlie.” I hear you say.
When discussing the subject with pals, I remind them of a really powerful ‘positive’ we all hold ‘top of mind.’ Sadly, when tough times come along, it’s difficult to remember any solution.
Affirmation. It’s helped many in different ways, being a potent reminder of worth – if (as happens to us all) you find you are digging yourself out of holes while constantly juggling with doubt.
Not forgetting purpose. If you don’t have one, find it. It’s valuable.
We all have a purpose in whatever we choose to pursue. If you haven’t questioned or identified your purpose lately, now might be the time to reflect and quietly reaffirm your passion, the path to success you may be following, the goal you are looking to reach.
How do we identify purpose? Let’s take the business owner-manager, for example…
Simply put, your purpose is at the core of why you do what you do that makes money.
Firstly, understand the type of business you are in; think about how you offer more than simply “bringing in cash.” You know, all of us offer more than income.
What change does your business inspire? How do we affect others? Are we offering more than transactions?
Identify the impact we make on our prospects and customers alike. Unity? Better living standards? Happier families? Stronger communities?
Once you understand your purpose, i.e. how you inspire change, the impact on your customers and community, we are closer to understanding …
The target customer
The problems you solve
How we make people feel
There are plenty of formulae to follow that give us a similar solution to ‘staying on track.’ This is one of them. The key to any formula, though, is to put it to work regularly, talk it over with peers, then write it down; these will develop as you grow personally and professionally.
Now, let’s step out with purpose, because people like to be associated with those who they know, like and trust.’
