As ever, music was playing as I visited once more our local ‘convenience’ outlet yesterday …
‘Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing, Baby’ declared Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
I smiled and thought it was more than a coincidence, as I’d been nominated by the ‘chief cook and bottle washer’ to pick up ‘real butter.’ I had no idea why it had to be; it just needed to be ‘real.’
“No problem,” I thought as I hummed along to Marvin …
Most of you who catch up with my posts will know by now I’m an advocate for the personal touch, not so much the gizmos that attempt to make things easier (perhaps I should?) or tech enhancement.
Why? I’ve never picked up the ‘buzz’ for trends. Listening to peers, I’m told I should be more savvy, ‘up to date,’ but … would the conversation be improved? Perhaps, although as a traditional kind of guy I’m used to getting things done the ‘right way’ – you know, real food (no enhancements), transport, which I’m in control of as well, straightforward medical care – performed by real, trained surgeons, etc, etc.
So, just as Marvin and Tammi signed off, I managed to retrieve the ‘real butter’ – collecting two packs, just in case.
“Why two packs?” Chief asked upon my return to the hub known as the kitchen.
I was still humming along to ‘Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing, Baby’ … when the thought occurred to me that the song could be a signature tune for ‘Weekly Biz,’ our community network. We’re consistently proving how important the real person is – and the secret ingredient?
Giving more.
